Kia Motors Receives Highest Rank Among Mass Market Brands for Initial Quality by J.D. Power

2018 Kia Rio

The results are in from the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS), and Kia Motors has received the highest ranking among mass market brands! This is the fourth consecutive year that Kia has taken the top spot, which serves as a testament to the superior quality of every model. Kia maintained its leading spot among the competition by having just 72 reported problems per every 100 vehicles within the first 90 days of ownership.

“Ranking number one among all mass market brands for four consecutive years leaves no doubt as to the world-class quality and craftsmanship instilled in every car and SUV that Kia builds. With two segment winners and four additional models finishing in the top three of their respective segments, the evidence of Kia’s progression and focus on the ownership experience is overwhelming,” said Michael Cole, the chief operating officer and EVP of Kia Motors America.

In 2016 and 2017, Kia ranked highest in the industry with the lowest levels of reported problems. This strong showing continued in 2018 across 240 Kia models, which were analyzed in a substantial report that collected 75,712 responses from vehicle owners. Kia had particularly great performances from the Sorento and Rio, which led their segments of Midsize SUV and Small Car, respectively. The Kia Optima (Midsize Car), Sportage (Small SUV) and Sedona (Minivan) each finished second in their respective segments, and the Kia Forte placed third among Compact Cars.
