Subaru’s annual Share the Love event sets aside donations that customers can assign to either a national or local charity when they purchase or lease a new vehicle, and this year, Greater Boston Subaru dealership Mastria Subaru leveraged that opportunity to help local homeless dogs find new owners. After raising $19,291.66 for Brockton’s Blue Dog Shelter during the event, which ran from Nov. 21 to Jan. 2, Mastria Subaru will present a check to the nonprofit organization at 1 p.m. this Friday, March 15, at its showroom in Raynham, Mass.

The Brockton Blue Dog Shelter provides a safe haven for unwanted or unprotected dogs, offering services like donation-supported healthcare, basic obedience training, and spaying and neutering. On weekends during Subaru’s sixth annual Share the Love event, Mastria Subaru partnered with the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter and J.M. Pet Resort to hold microchipping clinics and obedience demos at its dealership. Subaru representative Tim Pike will join Mastria Auto Group President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Mastria and other members of the executive team to present the Share the Love check to the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter, with a luncheon to follow.

“It’s rare for an automaker to set aside $250 that each buyer can chose to donate to a local charity selected by a dealership, but Subaru is not your typical automaker,” said Chris Dunn, general manager of Mastria Subaru. “Knowing that so many of our customers are loving dog owners, we can’t think of a better local organization to share the love with than the Brockton Blue Dog Shelter, and we’re so glad that it was a successful fundraising and awareness campaign this year.”

Contributing to the success of the latest Subaru Share the Love event were rapid sales of the redesigned 2014 Subaru Forester. The compact SUV remains a popular item at dealerships in 2014, as its February sales rose by 95 percent compared to the same month last year, totaling 10,773 units. The Forester’s strong performance helped the overall Subaru lineup set a February sales record, with the brand moving 34,909 models in the United States last month.
