Maxima & Altima Top Performers in Front Crash Prevention

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded two Nissan midsize sedans with glowing reports in their latest ratings for front crash prevention systems. The 2019 and 2020 model year Nissan Maxima earned the designation of ‘superior,’ while the 2019 and 2020 Altima earned ‘advanced’ ratings from the IIHS. To discover the complete suite of standard and available safety features in new Nissan sedans, visit our Nissan dealership in Raynham, MA, and meet our sales team.

Nissan, long renowned for innovative safety technologies, offers standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection on the 2020 Maxima. The 2020 Maxima is one of only two non-luxury models that earned a superior front crash rating during the latest round of IIHS testing and was the only tested vehicle to completely avoid the obstacle in six performed tests. The Altima was also recognized as an advanced sedan in its vehicle class.

AEB with Pedestrian Detection uses both camera-based technology and radar to scan the vehicle’s surroundings and apply the brakes when necessary. This technology is designed to reduce or eliminate the severity of impacts with nearby vehicles and pedestrians alike, creating safer conditions for both drivers and passersby on foot.

“The well-being of those inside our cars is just as important as the well-being of those outside our vehicles,” said Rob Warren, director and chief marketing manager, Nissan North America. “AEB with Pedestrian Detection is announced as standard or available on 10 Nissan vehicles for the 2020 model year, and we’re working on expanding the technology further as quickly as possible.”
