If you have a child heading in for another year of high school or trekking off to college, you might be thinking about helping them get a car so they have a bit more independence. To make that choice easier, the editors at Kelley Blue Book compiled a list of the 10 best back-to-school cars of 2016. The list is comprised of new vehicles under $20,000 that were highly ranked in safety, practicality, affordability and style.
When it comes to safety, the 2016 Mazda3 and Mazda CX-3 are top of their class, both models earning Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the IIHS. Available safety features abound, like the Mazda Radar Cruise Control, which is able to calculate the speed and distance of the car ahead and then set a speed range to maintain a safe distance from that vehicle. If the car begins approaching at too fast a speed, an audible alert will go off, signaling the driver to take over.
The 2016 Mazda CX-3 is also highly ranked in fuel efficiency and affordability. In addition to this list, KBB.com editors also added the SUV to their 10 Favorite New Cars of 2016 and 10 Coolest Cars Under $25,000. Meanwhile, the Mazda3 made a statement in style, topping KBB’s list of 10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000. This is the thirteenth time in a row that the Mazda3 has made that list.
