In the compact and compact crossover categories, respectively, the 2018 Mazda3 and 2018 Mazda CX-5 both took home the 2018 Best New Car Award. The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) collaborates with Car and Driver magazine for these awards, which measures the qualities of more than 100 new vehicles. After being narrowed down to just 25 vehicles, GHI Labs and consumer testers measure the finalists for safety, value, design, handling, technology and comfort.

And not just one, but two, Mazda models came out on top when the results were revealed.

“The Mazda vehicles really stood out when you look at the number of features you get for the price point,” says Laurie Jennings, director of the Good Housekeeping Institute. “We were impressed by the exterior and interior styling, and it’s clear their design team worked hard to eliminate as much visual noise as possible. You also get a much quieter ride, which is great for parents with kids in the backseat or people who log a lot of miles on the highway.”

The Mazda CX-5 has earned additional industry accolades since hitting the market, including making Car and Driver’s 10Best Trucks and SUVs for 2018 list and being named an IIHS Top Safety Pick. As for the Mazda3, this is the second time it has been selected for the Good Housekeeping Best New Car Award.
