VW Employees Pack Over 35,000 Meals for American Kids in Need

On July 10, hundreds of employees from Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VWGoA) packed more than 35,000 meals for children in need. These employees all volunteered with Generosity Feeds as part of VWGoA’s Get Involved Summer of Service, an annual program running from May to September that specifically designates time for employees to perform service. After Volkswagen employees in Herndon, VA, packed 5,000 meals for students at a local school last summer, five more VWGoA communities joined in on this simultaneous effort in 2018.

“Last year, our corporate headquarters in Herndon, VA hosted Generosity Feeds for a meal-packing event and it was such a success that we were thrilled to have six of our VWGoA locations from across the country join us to simultaneously create meals at their own offices to celebrate the 2018 Get Involved Summer of Service,” said Machelle Williams, the Sr. Director of Diversity & CSR, VWGoA.

These 35,000 meals will be distributed across their respective areas to children and families who are struggling with hunger. Generosity Feeds, an initiative of the non-profit Replenish Community Foundation, helps to mobilize meal-packing volunteers nationwide and will distribute the food to local schools and food pantries.

“More than 13 million children in America struggle with hunger. That’s one in every six,” said Ron Klabunde, the founder and CEO of Generosity Feeds. “We are so grateful to our friends at Volkswagen for partnering with us in this nationwide effort. Employees from these six sites share an incredible amount of talent and heart. Together, they’ll make a significant, positive difference in every community they touch this summer.”

Volkswagen employees aren’t just limited to this program to help in their communities. The company also matches employee donations, and provides employees a paid day off to volunteer.
